New-build solar

Seamless integration for developers and self-builders; clean energy with a finish that suits modern housing programmes.

In-roof solar panels integrated into a new-build home

The new-build specialists

Installing solar since 2005 and trading as Solar City since 2010 on new-build homes across the Midlands - from bespoke single plots to multi-plot developments.

Seamless integration

In-roof systems that sit flush within the roof covering so kerb appeal and planning aesthetics are never compromised.

Programme-ready

We tie in with site managers, builders and roofing teams so tight build programmes stay on schedule across phased handovers.

Working with West Midlands housebuilders & self-builders

Whether you are a regional developer delivering a multi-plot housing scheme, a main contractor working to a strict build programme, or a self-builder managing a bespoke plot, solar PV is easiest and most cost-effective when designed into the roof package before tiling starts. Since 2010, Solar City has worked alongside housebuilders and site teams across Birmingham, Solihull, Warwickshire and the wider West Midlands to deliver tidy, reliable installations on schedule.

In-roof GSE & flashing integration with your roofers

On a new roof, an in-roof (integrated) mounting system replaces the tiles or slates directly beneath the solar array. Rather than bolting brackets above finished tiles, weather-proof interlocking trays and perimeter flashings sit directly onto the battens, and our sleek all-black solar panels sit flush with the surrounding roof line. Not only does this deliver a clean architectural finish from the street, it also saves the developer the cost of the roof tiles that the solar array displaces.

We also supply and install traditional on-roof rail systems where a specification or roof pitch calls for above-tile mounting. We install leading panel, inverter and battery brands, chosen to suit your home and budget, including Aiko, Fox ESS, Sigenergy, EcoFlow, Trina and LONGi.

First-fix and second-fix programme coordination

New-build sites run on scaffold striking dates and plot sign-off milestones. Because you deal directly with our Tyseley engineering office and in-house electrical teams, we coordinate cleanly with your site manager:

  • Pre-construction design: We work from roof drawings and SAP/energy schedules to confirm panel counts, string layouts and cable containment routes for each house type.
  • First fix (roof & containment): While roofers and scaffolding are in place, we install the in-roof trays, flashings and solar panels, and run labelled DC cabling to the inverter position.
  • Second fix & commissioning: Once plastering and mains power are ready, our electricians mount and commission the inverter (plus any battery storage or EV chargers) and complete all electrical testing.
  • MCS & DNO handover packs: We issue the official MCS certificate (NIC-1542), electrical test certificates and DNO G98/G99 notifications promptly for building control and plot completion packs.

Send drawings or plot schedules via our contact page or call the office on 0121 707 9991.

  • Designed around SAP, planning and site energy-efficiency specifications
  • In-roof tray and flashing specialists for a clean, weather-tight modern finish
  • Direct contact with experienced MCS installers (NIC-1542); no sales layer
  • Future-proofed first-fix and second-fix options including battery-ready and EV-ready designs

Common questions

Do you install in-roof solar panels on new-build developments?
Yes. We specialise in integrated in-roof solar PV trays and flashing kits for single self-build plots and multi-plot residential developments across Birmingham, Solihull and the West Midlands, sitting flush with roof tiles or slates.
How do you coordinate with site managers and roofing contractors?
We split new-build work into clear first-fix and second-fix stages aligned with your build programme. At roof stage we install or coordinate the in-roof trays, panels and DC cabling while scaffolding is up; at second fix we fit and commission the inverter, isolators, consumer unit connections and monitoring.
What handover documentation do you provide for plot completions?
Each completed plot receives a full homeowner and developer handover pack including the MCS certificate (under our certification NIC-1542), electrical installation certificate, DNO G98 or G99 commissioning confirmation, equipment datasheets and operation instructions.
Can new-build plots be wired ready for battery storage and EV charging?
Yes. We can install full solar, battery storage and EV charging from day one, or fit hybrid-ready inverters and containment so buyers or developers can add battery packs and EV charge points cleanly.
Which areas do you cover for housebuilders and self-builders?
From our base in Tyseley, Birmingham (B11 2BA), our in-house teams cover sites within 40 miles of Solihull, including Birmingham, Solihull, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and the Black Country.
