From design to completion
Over two decades of experience installing solar PV systems from initial enquiry through to handover: instant ballpark tool, desktop design, on-site survey, MCS installation and DNO G98/G99 paperwork.
Our story & credentials
A family-run MCS certified solar installer (NIC-1542) based in Tyseley, Birmingham; technical work, clear pricing, and no salespeople on the doorstep.
Solar City, Unit 18, The Business Centre, 20 James Road, Tyseley, Birmingham B11 2BA. 0121 707 9991. MCS NIC-1542.
Chris Hammond has worked in solar since 2002. D J Hammond Electrical Contractors Ltd carried out its first solar installs in 2005, and the Solar City brand launched in 2010 alongside co-director David Hammond so homeowners, housebuilders and commercial clients across Solihull, Birmingham and the West Midlands could deal directly with qualified solar electricians.
Solar City puts technical engineering before sales targets. We are a local MCS-certified firm (NIC-1542), not a franchise network or a commission-driven call centre that disappears after handover. From your first desktop design and on-site survey through to roof installation, electrical commissioning and DNO notification, you speak with the people who design and fit the system.
Solar City is a trading name of D J HAMMOND ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS LTD, company number 05338112, VAT 389137316.
Solar City (UK) is a family-run West Midlands installer and is not connected to the US company SolarCity owned by Tesla.

Solar City is proud to be a Birmingham City Foundation Community Partner, supporting the work of Birmingham City FC Foundation, the official charity of Birmingham City Football Club.
The Foundation works across the city through four areas: Football for All, Healthy Living, Skills and Education, and Stronger Communities. In the 2024/25 season it engaged with 39,000 people. Its work includes full-time coaches and mentors placed in local schools at no cost to the school, weekly disability football at Ark Victoria Academy in Small Heath, Premier League Kicks sessions for young people across East and South Birmingham, and warm spaces and a community food pantry at its Community Hub on Emmeline Street, beside St Andrew's.
We're based in Tyseley, Birmingham, and fuel poverty is an issue close to our hearts. In 2024 the West Midlands had the highest fuel poverty rate of any English region, at 12.1% of households. Birmingham, at 13.8%, was among the five local authorities with the highest rates in England (DESNZ Sub-regional Fuel Poverty statistics, 2026). That's why we're proud that, working with Dodd Group, we installed all 348 solar systems on Birmingham City Council's LAD3 scheme (896 kWp installed, Acivico). It was the largest project delivered under LAD3, and it helped low-income households across Balsall Heath, Acocks Green and Tyseley cut their energy bills.
